Alex has started to say some animal sounds...it is too cute!
In case you need a little interpretation of the video...the duck says "quack, quack" - he kinda turned away from the camera at the beginning, so I did a second duck at the end. The cow is apparently dying as it is more of a moan : ). The elephant does not make a sound - but he does a trunk motion for the elephant.

More Walking...
Here's a video of Alex walking outside this morning...
(It is CRAZY hot here so we played outside from 6:15-7:15 to beat the heat and the poor kid was still sweating by the end)

And He's Off...
Well kinda.... On Wednesday, we had a play date with Alex's friend, Evan, who is walking all over the place. Apparently Evan inspired Alex because Alex started walking everywhere that afternoon. He was taking about 6-10 steps in a row and getting up in the middle of the room without holding on to anything. He still resorts to crawling most of the time as it is quick and easy, but we are seeing more and more walking. I will try and get a good video with Eric's help this weekend - but here is a little preview....

First Birthday Party
We had Alex's First Birthday Party on Saturday. Our friends came over for a pool party. Despite the forecast for 60% chance of rain and storms, we stayed dry and even had some sun.
We had a great time with all of our friends - thanks to all for helping us celebrate Alex's big day!
We played in the pool all afternoon....

Grilled out for dinner and then had cake..we had a "summer/pool" theme - so I made a fish cake....

After dinner the "big" kids entertained themselves by playing in the rocks....

And the little babies just cooed and smiled at each other.....

Jaime took some great pictures as well. You can view her post at www.alittlebitmoore.com (you will see a couple duplicates as I stole a few from her for my post ;). Thanks Jaime!

1 Year Old
Alex's 1 year doctor appointment got rescheduled for August 11, so I decided to still do a blog post about him at 1 year and will add his height and weight stats later.
Alex still loves vacuums and golf clubs, and has now added umbrellas to his list of obsessions.

He LOVES to wrestle on the floor with us. If you are laying on the ground you are fair game and he will come crawling full speed with his "auuuughhhh" war cry and climb and pull and is just such a boy.
He spends many hours putting things in and taking things out of drawers, baskets, etc. He is so happy on the deck moving blocks and rocks from his shopping cart to his wagon to the wheelbarrow, etc.
He just started waving "bye bye" this week, it isn't pretty, but it's a wave ;).
He has expanded the "more" sign to his universal sign for everything and often it is more of a clap and when he wants something he just claps at you. If he wants the vacuum turned on, some of our food, to go outside, etc. He just gestures at the object and then claps at us.
He is not walking yet. He will randomly let go of something and take 3-4 steps independently, but then may not do that again for a day or two.
I am stating that "nana"/banana is pretty much his first official word as he says it very consistently now. Everything else is pretty much "da" or "dat" almost like he is saying "that".
He is still a great eater - he pretty much dives in and eats with two hands shoveling it in as fast as he can. He loves fruit. Bananas are still his favorite. He likes noodles and spaghetti sauce and I can get lots of veggies mixed in there. He is getting more and more independent and wants to have the bowl or container I am feeding him from. Here is his sheer excitement when I let him hold the bowl..

Still has just the 4 teeth.
He is doing great in the pool. He will kick his legs when he is "swimming".

1 YEAR OLD (First a flashback)
First let's flashback to a year ago. Alex's due date was July 12. My doctor said he would not let me go later than July 16th, but if I wanted him to be my delivering doctor then I could choose to be induced on the 14th. As much as I wanted to go into labor naturally, we figured the odds were I would be induced in 2 days anyway and I preferred to have my own doctor do the delivery.
6:00 am - we were admitted to the hospital for the induction. I was dilated to 3 when I was admitted.
7:30 am - they started the pitocin
We watched TLC's Bringing Home Baby to get prepared (and scare Eric).
We put in our guesses:
Eric guessed 1:30 pm delivery and 8lbs. 8 oz.
Julie guessed 12:15 pm delivery and 8lbs. 1 oz
9:15 am - Dilated to 5 and the doctor broke my water. The contractions got very strong very quickly.
9:45 am - Epidural
10:30 am -Dilated to 5.5
12:10 pm - Dilated to 10
12:30pm - Started pushing
12:50pm - Welcomed Alexander Jon Postma into the world. 8lbs. 9oz, 21 1/2 inches.

MICHIGAN Day 6
Friday was the final day of our vacation. Eric golfed in the morning, while Alex, Julie and Grammy joined Ang and her boys at the pool. They have a membership at this pool and it was awesome. It had the gradual entrance so Alex could just splash around in the shallow and it had fountains - which he loved to play in. We wish we could have had more time there!

Friday afternoon we had family pictures for my brother's wedding. Alex did such a great job. Here are a few shots that we were able to sneak during photos....the lighting was rough so only a few of ours turned out...can't wait to see the professional ones.
Julie's family - younger brother, Joel...older brother (groom), Todd and mom and dad.

Alex's Grammy came and picked him up at the wedding site and watched him all night for us.
It was so great for him to spend so much time with his grandmas.
The wedding turned out beautiful. Despite a few showers that started about 30 minutes before the ceremony and lasted until about 30 seconds before the bride, Jen, walked down, the weather was just perfect. The reception was a blast and we had a great night.

MICHIGAN Day 6
Apparently the camera needed a break because we have no documentation of this day. It was our only dreary, rainy day of the whole trip. The cousins played at Eric's sister's house during the day and then Alex got to hang out all night with his Grammy (Eric's mom), while Eric and I went to the rehearsal dinner for my brother's wedding.
MICHIGAN Day 5
Once again on Wednesday, hot and humid weather filled the day. Grandma and Alex spent the day together while Julie got to hang out with her good friend, Sara, and Eric golfed on a beautiful course (notice a recurring theme here : ) ) with his friend, Tim.

That night we went to Eric's sister's for another birthday party for Alex. He got spoiled with lots more great presents and they had a #1 shaped cupcake cake for him.

MICHIGAN Day 4
The hot and sunny weather continued on Tuesday - we were so lucky with our weather all week.
Julie had a reunion with 3 of her close elementary/Jr. High friends. We had all moved away - AZ, NY, AL and WI, but two of the girls now live back in the area and my friend from AZ and I happened to be home visiting at the same time, so we all met for breakfast and did some reminiscing.
Later in the day Eric and I took Alex to the beach with us. He LOVED it. The water was only in the 70's (pretty warm for Lake MI), but he just giggled when the waves crashed on him.

He explored in the sand and was completely content with his little bucket of water and some sand toys.

Eric and I finally braved the water as well.....

On Tuesday night, Grandma and Grandpa babysat again and Eric and I went out for dinner to Boatwerks in Holland, MI a great restaurant with a big outdoor deck/patio. Then we had a big milestone and left Alex overnight and spent the night at Cityflats hotel in Holland. (again - forgot the camera)

MICHIGAN Day 3
The sunny and hot weather continued on Monday. Eric golfed in the morning and Julie and Alex hung out with Grandma and Alex's cousin, Isaac. We went to a local playground (but forgot the camera). Alex had his first lick of an icecream cone and was not a fan of the coldness. Later in the day, Julie's whole family grilled out at her mom and dad's.
Alex practiced the bag game...he's got some skills...
He was ready to get in on the badmitton action as well....

Giving Isaac a ride on the car...basically this kid is happy anytime he is pushing something around....

Just loving vacation and being outside.....

Deep in thought ..... or pooping...anyone's guess....
