I am attempting to get better at recording things Alex says...
Alex's newest and frequently used phrase is "Momma watch You". He says this when he wants me to sit and watch him do something. I often say, "yes, momma will watch you" - so he picked up on that and requests it often in his own 2 year old language.

Happy Early Birthday to Me
Eric surprised me with a new Dyson for my birthday! I have never been so excited about a vacuum in my entire life. We had an old vacuum that was basically just pushing the dirt around and I REALLY wanted a Dyson. And I do love it!
Eric had the vacuum shipped to friend's of ours so he could keep it a secret. He put the box in a big black garbage bag in our driveway on Saturday morning. Eric played it so well that I truly thought that someone had left a bomb or dead body in our driveway - so I stepped back and made him open the bag ;).
Of course, Alex loves to help vacuum and already knows how to empty the canister.

Healthy Boys
We had two big doctor appointments yesterday.
We started the morning with Alex's 2 Year Appointment. We are thankful once again for a healthy report from the doctor. Everything looked great.
Weight - 29 lbs (60-75th%)
Height - 35 inches (75th%)
Head - 49 3/4 cm (80th%)
We ended the morning as a family watching our new precious baby boy kicking around on the ultrasound screen. Again we were blessed with an excellent report on Baby Boy Postma #2 as the doctor said everything looked "perfect". We were so excited to find out that Alex will be having a little play buddy/brother to grow up with!

Happy Birthday Part II
We celebrated Alex's birthday as a family Saturday morning. We started with cake - I was very thankful that Alex knew that his cake was suppose to be a lawnmower cake as craftiness is not my forte.

Then Alex got to open more presents...
LOVED LOVED this umbrella from Uncle Tim, Aunt Ang and "cousins"....it was "raining" all day here according to Alex and he needed to use his "brella" often!

Another HUGE hit was the play chainsaw that Eric and I got him. He has cut every bush and tree in sight today and thankfully we finally had some nice weather and spent all day outside enjoying his new presents.

He also got some special packages in the mail.
Thank You Grampy and Grammy for his books and bubbles!

Alex had fun opening all the birthday cards that came in the mail as well. It is tradition for Grandpa and Grandma to send dollar bills equal to the number of years the child is that year and he was very excited to find money in his card!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY
Happy 2nd Birthday to Alex!!!
I don't know how it happened, but we have a 2 year old in our house!

Alex helped me make the cupcakes for his little birthday/play date. Last night when he wanted to eat them I explained they were for his birthday and he could have them when Rory and Evan came over. Well, this morning I could hear him talking on his monitor and he was saying "Evan, Rory, eat cupcakes, Yum!" Too cute!
He celebrated his birthday with Evan and Rory this morning.
He was a little excited to open his presents, they barely made it into the house...

Finally cupcakes! Unfortunately I didn't realize how bad the lighting was until later - I should have closed the blinds.....

(Notice the pink shoes Alex is wearing in the picture below - he put on Rory's shoes and insisted on wearing them all morning and went around saying "my shoes". )

You may want to mute your computer for this video as I am tone deaf and singing right into the camera ;).....
Unfortunately Eric had to put in a 13 hour work day today, so we will have our family celebration tomorrow.
Here is what our big boy is up to these days.
*Hide and Seek -
His new favorite game to play is Hide and Seek. "I hiding, I hiding" - let's us know that we are playing hide and seek. He plays with Eric at night and always hides behind the glider in his room. Sometimes he is actually a good hider and will just hide in the same spot the whole time we play and sometimes he simply lays in the middle of the floor and hides his face ;).

*Talking -
He is talking all the time and using a lot of 3-4 word phrases...a few examples....
"I go Evan house" - pretty much says this every morning
"I go find it"
"pet Buddy nice" - wish he really did ;)
"be right back"
"I watch monkey" - we have started to allow some tv viewing and have introduced Alex to Curious George
*Temperament -
Thankfully Alex is still a pretty easy going kid. He doesn't have the big dramatic kicking meltdowns, but definitely has his toddler moments of testing and testing and more testing. He is very independent and wants to brush his own teeth, doesn't want to hold our hand in parking lots, and "I do it" is a favorite phrase :). But he usually gives in with mild protest - enough to let us know that he is two.
*Favorite Things -
Alex still LOVES lawnmowers! If he hears one when we are outside, he is determined to go find it. He likes tractors and is getting into matchbox cars too. He loves playing outside - he usually is pushing toys around up and down the sidewalk, fixing something with Eric's tools or playing golf.
Here is a little look back at our sweet boy...

Train Museum
Rachel and I took the boys on a field trip to the Train Depot Museum today. They had so much fun! In Eric's bedtime chat last night he told Alex he was going to see trains today and Alex woke up bright and early this morning and we could hear him saying "I drive it" "go see choo choo" on the monitor.
We started out with a trolley/train ride on a little track around the grounds. Alex wore a very serious expression on his face from the minute he got on until he got off ;).

There were train cars all around that the kids could climb on and explore...

There was also an indoor section with an old fire truck and some other old cars for them to drive and explore. Alex loved the stuffed dalmatian on the fire truck.

Checking the air pressure just like Daddy taught him to do....

And buying his first pack of cigarettes....
They also had a little indoor play area as well. It had a little diner they could cook in, and various play areas with trucks and trains, etc.

And a big sandbox...

Totally Random
There is nothing that ties this post together - so here are just some totally random updates....
1. "Daddy Chats"
Eric has magic powers when it comes to getting Alex to sleep! Lately, due to fireworks, thunderstorms and what appears to be some nightmares, Alex has been waking up occasionally at night. If I go in the room, Alex just plays me - "mommy back" (rub his back) or "mommy lay down" (lay down next to his crib) - and I stay in there until he falls asleep. Well if Eric goes in there he has "man to man" chats with Alex - something like this, "Alex, tomorrow when you wake up we are going to watch race cars and watch them change the tires and drive fast, then we can mow the grass and you can help me and then we can wash the cars. But, right now you need to be a big boy and lay down and go night night" AND ALEX DOES!!! It is cute and crazy - but guess who gets to go in there now when Alex wakes up :).
2. Dressing Himself -
Alex is starting to sometimes have an opinion about what he wears for the day, but thankfully usually does well with two choices. He almost daily wants to wear his green warm up pants and we have to discuss that he can only wear shorts now. Well yesterday he found this vest in the pile of stuff I am organizing and storing and put it on all by himself and was quite determined to wear it all morning :).
3. Best Buddies
We are so lucky to live about 2 minutes away from some very good friends! My friend, Rachel, has a little boy, Evan, who is just 9 weeks older than Alex. She also has a 4 month old. We have been getting together 3-5 mornings a week lately and it has been great. The boys play together so well and entertain themselves nicely - most of the time. Alex is getting used to having a baby around and he LOVES Baby Mallory. He is constantly giving her hugs and kisses and playing with her. He always wants me to hold her too.

These pictures are funny because they are never this quiet - they are usually running around and dumping every toy in sight!
