Alex is feeling better. Still blowing some nice snot bubbles and having some coughing fits, but he slept in his own crib for that last two nights - yeah! (Even though frequent night visits by mommy were "requested" : ).
Alex is getting more and more vocal and is always very excited to tell Daddy all about his day when he gets home work. Alex has two new sounds/"words" : ) this past week - ahna and mama... here he is practicing "ahna"

The Crud
That was the official diagnosis at the doctor's office this morning as the doctor said- "I would like to use some fancy medical terminology, but basically your child has the crud". Alex's cold seemed to be improving yesterday - he was perkier, fever was down, he was eating better, but then last night it took a turn downhill again. His cough got worse and he would cry within 15 minutes of being laid down in his crib- his ears we assumed. So, Alex spent the night sleeping on mommy's chest.
We got some Amoxicillin for his ears and some Albuterol for his cough/chest. So, hopefully in a couple of days we will see some improvement and he will be feeling better and mommy will get to sleep in a bed again soon!

Sick Baby
Alex came down with his first cold this weekend : (. It started with excessive drooling, so we thought that teeth may be coming. Next came a loose cough - we thought this may be a result of the excessive drool draining down his throat. Not too far after came the nasal congestion and a fountain of snot flowing freely and constantly from his nose. And unfortunately the fever came yesterday. We had a rough night Friday night as he would wake up coughing and try to suck his fingers to fall back asleep, but couldn't suck his fingers as he couldn't breathe through his nose - poor baby. We raised one end of his mattress up last night and that seemed to help some and last night was a little better for all. We have logged lots of hours in the rocker together this weekend. He hasn't been too fussy, but you can tell he is just not himself and feels pretty miserable.
Fluids draining from every possible spot:
eyes: check
nose: check
mouth: check

Just needing some cuddle time:

A little perkier today:

Play Date!!
Alex and I had our friends - Jaime and Hastings - over to play yesterday. Now that both babies can sit up it was fun to see them start to interact with each other. Oh, to know what babies are thinking would be priceless. Disclaimer: Alex just woke up from a 2 1/2 hour nap - so he was still a little groggy ; )
Jaime has some other cute pics on her blog too: http://www.alittlebitmoore.com
Here Hastings is telling Alex "it's okay, everyone drools"...

"I promise I didn't push her - she just fell over"

Hastings was very determined to get her message across!

7 MONTHS OLD
Alex turned 7 months old yesterday - WOW!
Here is what he is up to at 7 months old.
His favorite things to play with involve everything but actual toys. He hates having socks on his feet and removes them 100 times a day and chews on his socks or sucks on his toes.
Alex loves to play with magazines, Tupperware, etc.
He is loving solid foods - not always sure about the beans, but will eat anything so far. He has tried all the basic fruits and veggies, except for peas which we will have this week and then can get a little more adventurous with Step 2 foods.
He is vocal and "talks" all day long.
Alex plays so well by himself. He us not really close to crawling at all as he hates playing on his stomach. He will army scoot a little if he can push his feet off against something.
He is a very sweet baby and usually very happy - but he has developed a little patience issue when it comes to food. If we put him in the high chair - his food better be ready to go!
Valentines Day!
Thank You to Eric for the very sweet Valentines gifts. He came home from work on Friday with these beautiful flowers for me. I should have taken a picture on Friday when they were fresh.

Then on Saturday morning he had Alex present me with another surprise gift. A necklace with an A and E pendant - the initials of my two wonderful boys.

And before Eric can blog about what a bad wife I am - I will tell the story ;). I have always wanted Eric to get a massage because I know that he will love it if he tries it, but he resists the idea. So, since he is IMPOSSIBLE to buy presents for, I went out on a limb and got him a massage gift certificate for Valentines Day. He was not very excited and suggested I could use the massage myself and give him the money for it so he can get his golf clubs custom fit as a gift instead. Well, this all took place on Friday - so Saturday morning when he and Alex presented me with a wrapped present, I thought he had wrapped the massage gift certificate up as a joke (since he had already given me flowers I didn't expect anything else). And I voiced this thought out loud - so here he was being super sweet and having Alex give me a necklace for Valentines and I accused him of re-gifting - oooopps... sorry ; )

It's Never a Good Sign When....
You are at a Cosmetology School getting your hair colored/highlighted and after the student washes your hair says "ummmmmm... just a minute I will be right back" and comes back with her instructor............
So, on Saturday I decide to save a little money and get my hair done at the Cosmetology School, thinking really how bad can it be????
Red Flag #1 - Having to sign a waiver when I check in.
So I ask for my hair to be highlighted blonde and then an overall color of light brown and then just a basic cut- and knowing it would probably take a little longer I asked how long that would take. Was told a total of 2 1/2 hours to be safe....Well 3 hours later the student is still putting the final foils in my hair. She did maybe a total of 15-20 foils and it took her so long that first foils were finished processing while she was still completing the other side of my head. So the instructor tells her to start opening the first foils and wiping off the color while the others process.
This brings up back to where we started - after she washes my hair and brings back the instructor - the instructor calmly says "the foils didn't all process the same, so we are just going to put a toner on you to even everything out". The toner has to set for 20 minutes. So, now am getting a little hungry, tired, need to nurse, and having to call Eric yet again to let him know his babysitting duties are going be extended.
Student washes out toner - deja vu as she says, "ummmmm, just a minute" and then comes back and says the instructor who helped me today has only been there 2 weeks and doesn't really understand their colors yet. So, she gets the head instructor, who comes over and looks at my hair and says, "what color did you want your hair to be" - (am thinking this can really not be good) - I explain the overall light brown with honey/blondish highlights). She says, well it is looking a little "ash" colored, let's dry you up and see what we have.
Student dries my hair and I see it for the first time in 4 hours. Ash color is apparently dirty dark gray hair with some nice subtle lilac purple undertones. This is what color all the highlighted pieces are. Original instructor comes over and says - "oh it turned out nice, it's not too ashy" - me and student make eye contact in the mirror like "are you serious???????". Student gets head instructor. Plan to fix hair: re- highlight over the ash colored pieces. Bad instructor works on one side and student works on the other side to help save time. Of course, they forget to discuss how each is highlighting my hair and use a different method.
Wash out 2nd highlight: final result: orangish colored hair with a few ash colored pieces that never got recolored.
My favorite part - as the student is drying my hair for the final time - (I have now been there close to 5 hours) - she turns off the hairdryer and says "oh I almost forgot, did you want your hair cut too??" Me: "um, no, I think I will skip that this time". SERIOUSLY!!!
I am afraid to have my hair colored again and fixed for fear all the chemicals may make it fall out, so I figure I will be wearing a hat for the next 3-4 weeks : ).
I tried to take my own picture today - but this doesn't really do it justice:

My Sweet Husband
I am hoping that some day we turn this blog into a book and Alex will have it as a keepsake. I hope that he reads this post and learns from his Dad a tip on how to be a good husband. Eric is very good at doing the "small things" to let me know that he loves me and is thinking of me. One of those things that he does is send me cards in the mail - just to say Thank You for cleaning the house, doing laundry, etc. or to say he is thinking of me, etc. He used to send them to me at work and now he sends them to me at home. I hope he passes his thoughtfulness trait on to Alex. (Although I will probably have to teach Alex about putting the toilet seat down) : )
