Storytime

Alex loves nightly story time with daddy. He is just mesmerized by books. Eric is ready to move past board books and onto books with better plots : ), ...but, it is very sweet to watch them together....

Southern Culture

The types of comments which can only be heard in the South, an example of how college football dominates the culture.

A greeter at church, (appeared to be a 40-something female) making a comment to the female church-goer in front of Julie and I: LSU sure "opened a can" on Auburn last night, huh?

I chuckled while walking to our seats.

(For those of you who don't know, Auburn got destroyed by LSU last night)

Just Like Mommy

This post is for the VandenBrands... when I was younger I did not suck on my thumb or a pacifier - I sucked on two fingers - my ring finger and middle finger....some in my family may say that I did this for a little longer than recommended and yes, my parents did try to break my habit by putting band aids and nasty tasting deterrents on my fingers, but nothing could come between me and my fingers..... and Alex may feel the same way???

3 Months Old!

Alex at 3 months old: (a few days late)

*LOVES his fists - can't get enough of them. They are always in his mouth, he is a drooling mess and he occasionally gags himself with them by accident.

*Has figured out how to grab and hold his toys and of course, they go into the mouth as well.

*Just discovered his feet/toes and is quite fascinated by them....

*Loves sleeping on his tummy. He has always been an amazing sleeper at night, now he is a quite a good napper too!

*Is so much more aware of his surroundings. I used to be able to take him on errands during nap time, but now he is so alert and aware that the grocery store is just too exciting of a place to nap because he has to look all around. He is a lot more aware of Buddy and will watch him and he now looks for Eric when he hears his voice when Eric gets home from work.

*Laughs and Squeals all the time

*Loves to stand up and put weight on his legs - a trick Eric taught him early on

*Likes to be held facing out so he can catch all the action

*Just yesterday, he rolled over from his stomach to his back for the first time. He pushed high up on his arms and flipped...pretty sure he has no idea how he did it or what happened. Hopefully we can catch it on video this week.

*Here's a picture of Tummy Time - he is intrigued by seeing himself in the mirror...

Laughing

Alex is now laughing and squealing a lot more for us... we have been trying to get it on video, but the minute we have him laughing and remember to go get the camera he decides he is done. We missed videotaping the deep tummy laughs last night, but got a few laughs out of him to share...and yes, it is amazing what lengths we will go to in order to make him laugh : ).....

Bottoms Up

Summer leaves HSV in 3 hours?

The first pic is the temperature in Huntsville at 4:30pm yesterday. The second pic was taken 3 hours later. And yes, the tornado sirens went off during that 3 hour period - big storms.

Tummy Sleeper

Alex recently has not been a great napper. He jerks awake and thrashes and has been waking up about 30 minutes into his naps. My very smart sister-in-law recommended putting him to sleep for naps on his tummy...well this new (slightly nervous) mom resisted at first...but today after he woke up 40 minutes into a much needed nap - I tried it... well 2 1/2 hours later and he is still sleeping - so I am sold on this tummy sleeping and so is Alex....(and in talking to other friends, apparently this tummy sleeping approach is fairly common - with good reason!) I should have listened right away and we may have avoided his nice bald spots : )...... Lesson Learned: Always Listen to Ang!

Saturdays=College Football

Alex and Daddy watched the Spartans BIG WIN over Michigan yesterday.....

Alex tried, but he just couldn't quite make it through all the night games...

Oh the humanity!

So we are in the middle of college football right now, each Saturday is a smorgasbord of exciting college football games. And with one of the greatest inventions of the 21st century - high definition TV, football is even more enjoyable to watch.

Julie calls me at work on yesterday, "The TV isn't working and a light next to the word "Bulb" is blinking." Ug, the bulb on our big screen went out, a fairly common issue with big screens. Looks like today's MSU/UM game will be on low definition TV. Will I somehow survive? Its unknown at this point. If I can make it thru today without having some sort of high-def withdraws, a comparison can be made to this feat and when Sir Edmund Hillary climbed Mt Everest. The (male) readers of this blog would not doubt agree with me......

Charlotte's Web meets Freddy

I am closing the pool this week, which required me to go into our shed to get the winter pool cover. While I am grabbing for the cover, I glance to my left and see a fairly big spider. I look a little closer and see a red hour glass shape on the spiders back......yep a black widow. Alabama is home to both black widows and another poisonous spider called a brown recluse. I asked Julie if she wanted to walk to the shed to see the spider, she declined.

Now I Know Why My 2 month old fits into Size 6 Month Sleepers

We had our 2 month Wellness Check Up today. Will post updated pics tomorrow - just didn't happen today..

I am happy to report that Alex is a very healthy baby and VERY TALL!!

Weight - 14 lbs - 75th percentile
Height - 26 inches - off the chart - above 97th percentile!
Head - 43 cm - 95th percentile

He only cried for a second for his shots : (.... but was definitely the loudest I have ever heard him cry!.....he has been a little fussy today -not sure if it the shots...could be because he is all off schedule b/c I had to wake him up this morning to go to our appt. He did take a 3 hour nap this afternoon and has been much happier since.

We do have to go see a Pediatric ENT to have his tongue looked at. The doctor said he is on the borderline for needing it clipped, so he wanted the ENT's opinion.

One additional side note - I resigned from my job today, so I am officially a Stay At Home Mom now - yeah!
